GPSRecorder turns your iPhone in a GPS recording device. Use it to record your walks, share them and geotag your pictures

GPSRecorder displays the compass if you have an iPhone 3GS or 4 so that you can instantly know all that is important about your position : both geolocation and direction/North. If you can connect to the internet, an instant map is also available to find where you are and browse.

You can afterwards review your previous tracks on your phone, including interactive map, distance and speed travelled, or export one as a gpx and a KML file for use with other software (GPX is lingua franca for Locations). You can use it with google earth to review your trails on the desktop. You can directly export to houdah gps on the mac to geotag a large amount of pictures rapidly.

Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Pros and cons of GPSRecorder app for iPhone and iPad

GPSRecorder app good for

I like that you can set the record accuracy and it saves battery life
Nice, simple and fast... Many THX to author, but eat battery like a Boeing 747))
now i can record my off road Enduro tour and see them in google earth!!!! AWESOME! the only "problem" the gps signal always stay up also if the application is closed... fix that "problem" and my 4 star becomes 10 star!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (i must turn gps signal off manually)

Some bad moments

1star for houdahgeo Support. Rest is useless. No Background use or Multitasking. Do an Update.
Ive been using GPSRecorder for about 10 months and its been great for geotagging the photos I take with my DSLR. Ive been using it in conjunction with HoudahGeo on my Mac. GPSRecorders built-in support for HoudahGeo and other geotagging apps as well as being able to just email the log file makes it flexible easy to use. I was thrilled when iOS 4 came out with multitasking support and am glad to see that GPSRecorder now will run in the background so that I can do other tasks while still geocoding. Its been a great addition to my photography toolkit.
This app should be free in its current condition It needs lots of work. Too many features missing to mention in this review.
Pros: - Works with HoudahGPS for geo tagging to photos. - Inexpensive price. Cons: - Consumes battery so quickly. You cant use this app a day. - Doesnt run on background. If do, GPSRecorder fails logging. Worse-more, sometime it keep running on some part so that it consumes battery. It never stops even terminating the app nor rebooting the iPhone. - Graphics and UI are not fancy.
This app works very nicely. I have used it to measure distances covered while riding my bike. It is easy to use and accurate. Big problem, however, it drains the iPhone battery even when you think you have turned it off. I have now removed it from my phone and await fixing this fatal flaw.
